Easter 2008

The boys had fun hunting for the eggs that the Easter bunny had hidden while they were at church on Sunday. Nathaniel kept trying to put one egg back when he'd find another - or throw them. He finally kind of figured out what was going on. Joshua was pretty good about letting Nathaniel find the easy, in plain sight eggs. Next year, I'm sure Nathaniel will be more competion for Joshua!

We found matching shirts/outfits for the boys at Costco a couple of weeks ago...they had from infant all the way up to 6s and 7s. The shorts that went with these shirts are huge on Nathaniel - and it was a little cool on Sunday for shorts anyway. But they look so cute in their matching shirts. Not something I do all the time, but every once in awhile it's fun.

Oh, yes, we had Star Wars Easter eggs this year. Brian found a Star Wars egg kit at Walmart last week. Joshua thought that was about the coolest thing ever! So here are four of our very cool eggs.

No D&C, but it's over...

Well, the doctor in Sacramento told us last week that they maybe possibly could've gotten me in for a D&C today, but there was no 100% guarantee and it would probably not happen until next week. Well, we were sick and tired of be strung along and waiting for them to decide what to do, since I wasn't considered an emergency. The doctor (who did nothing to win any points with me from telling me that my age was against me (since when is 34 1/2 so old) and I had old eggs, but I could still probably have a good pregnancy later...) seemed to be trying to steer us from a D&C and said that another option (and better, supposedly) was a medical miscarriage. In the end, that is the option we went with because I was not going to go through all this wait and see game for another week or two. For the medical miscarriage, we were given some medication to insert and then it was a wait and see when things would start to naturally miscarry and pass. I was also given a prescription of Vicadin to help with any cramping. I guess that worked because I've had worse cramps before. It only took about 4 hours for things to get going...and luckily we were able to do this Friday night so the boys were sleeping and neither woke up for any reason throughout that long night. We did have to collect the placenta & fetus to take back to the doctor's so they could run labs on it. That was the worst part - especially for Brian because he would not let me see any of it. No parent should ever have to be the one responsible for doing this with their unborn baby. Emotionally, it's been worse on him so far - I'm still kind of numb. Physically, it was easier than a D&C. I was pretty weak on Saturday - even passed out briefly one Brian at one point and really scared him. He figures I lost at least a pint of blood. You'd think they'd have you do something like this at an outpatient facility or something, just in case there were bleeding issues, but no, it's all on your own at home. Thank goodness all went well. I'd told Joshua the night before that I was going to take some medicine that night that was going to make me kind of sick on Saturday so he'd have to help Daddy. He was great about it and about lunchtime decided he needed to be in with Mommy for awhile, so after lunch he came and laid on the bed with me and we read some books and stuff. Nathaniel was so thrilled to have Daddy all day, that he didn't even seem to notice I wasn't around as much. Thank goodness for the women at church - several different women brought us dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. It was such a great help. I'm starting to get back to normal - physically. Still have to wear maternity clothes which is hard every morning when I get dressed. Hopefully by this weekend I'll be feeling much better.

Sad times...

Well, last Friday our ultrasound didn't turn out quite as we'd hoped. The tech. was unable to find any cardiac activity. This came as such a shock as we'd heard the baby's heartbeat the week before & because I'd been feeling him/her move - even the night before the ultrasound I felt the little fluttery feelings. We were about 13 1/2 weeks along. That's a month further than we'd gotten with our first pregnancy (twins) almost 8 years ago. At least this time, we have two wonderful boys to help us get through the sadness. I see an OB-GYN in Sacramento on Thursday for what I guess is pre-op before a D&C...not sure when that will happen...we're getting very irritated & frustrated with the lack of communication from that dr's office. The only info. we were able to get was from my regular dr. contacting them.

Joshua's having a hard time understanding what is happening. He's still hoping for a baby sister. Nathaniel said "baby" for the first time today and pointed to my stomach. At least he'll eventually forget about this. It's horrible, still having to wear maternity clothes and all.

On the bright side...we had Joshua's conference last week and he is doing wonderfully...met or surpassed most of his benchmarks. That's reassuring. His writing in Spanish (what he gets instruction in) and English (what he doesn't get instruction in right now) is just developing wonderfully. He's such a smart kid!

Nathaniel is coming up with new words daily. Today was "baby", "frog" and "amen". He used to say a form of "ribbit" for frogs and at the end of prayers he would say "All Done!" Yesterday's big word was "waffle" (Brian made green waffles for St. Pat's day)...but it comes out mostly sounding like "waple".

Goofy boys and more...

Piano Man

Well, Nathaniel has discovered what it is to be a ham. He's always liked to have his picture taken, but he's taking it to new heights now...he makes the silliest faces when I go to take his picture...or just to make us laugh. He is such a goofy boy!

The poor kid's been sick lately...first it was pink eye and ear infections (both eyes and both ears). Drops seemed to take care of the pink eye, but the first round of antibiotics didn't take care of the ear infections, so he's on a second kind of antibiotics now (with today being the last day - yay!!) and hopefully that will do the trick. Except now, he's got a cold again. Both he and Brian have been hit, again. He just woke up from a very short, barely an hour nap...so congested he doesn't sleep well.

Luckily, Joshua has been healthy! He's doing very well in school and is just finishing up studying plants (they planted sunflowers) and now, he says, they're learning about leones (lions).

Tomorrow we get to go have an ultrasound that will tell us exactly how far along #3 is. This is our second trip to Sacramento this week. Last week, when I had my first prenatal visit my blood pressure was high (138/98). My dr. was, of course, not happy with that - neither was I. I'd never had high blood pressure with either of the boys. But my BP at my physical in September was a little high. Well, with my family history of hypertension, it's not a huge surprise. However, because my dr. is a family practice dr. she has now referred me to OBs in Sacramento. (I went in last Friday for a BP check & it was still high, though not so bad). Tuesday I had my first visit to the OBs office in Sac...with a nurse...and my BP was fine, but they're not going to refer me back to Davis, I doubt. We've been monitoring my BP at home and it's gotten a little lower, but still in the high 80s. For now they've just told me to cut my salt intake and exercise. I've been walking to pick Joshua up from school most days...which is causing havoc with my allergies because EVERYTHING is blooming here - trees & flowers. Today is pretty windy and between my allergies & Nathaniel's cold, we're probably going to have to skip the walk today.

Nothing else overly exciting going on here...now I'll just add pictures. I have to laugh...it seems that Carol & I always end up updating our blogs on the same day...great minds think alike!
